👋 I’m an experienced Front End Developer who’s been working in the web industry for over 15 years. Most people call me Chuck.
I originally started my career in 2005 with “Design by Front”, a web design consultancy in Belfast, Northern Ireland. In 2010 we moved from client work into web application development and created the acclaimed “Typecast” app – which went on to win .NET’s “Game Changer of the Year” award. In 2012 we were acquired by one of the leading font technology solution companies in the world – Monotype. I turned Freelance in 2017 from which time I've been contracting with the awesome team at Dawson Andrews.
Whilst with Dawson Andrews:
- SportsWork - Front End Developer on sportswork.co, a sports job aggregator built with Craft. The main search is powered by Algolia, with a Vue front end.
- Toys “R” Us – I was lead Front End Developer on this ambitious project. Our task involved a refactor and re-write the front-end code for www.toysrus.co.uk to apply our new, responsive design. The site was originally built on ATG Oracle and as such involved a deep level of collaboration between teams to integrate our new designs and front-end code into their existing systems. - Belfast Waterfront & Ulster Hall – A complete rebuild of one of Belfast's most popular entertainment venue websites. I was the lead developer for the Front End, Craft CMS build and Tessitura integration work. You can read the DA case study here.
- ICC Belfast – Lead Front End on the build for this brand new website for Belfast's International Convention Centre. The site is fully responsive and manageable to the nth-degree through our integrated Craft CMS build.
Whilst with Monotype:
- MyFonts.com – helping to develop the Homepage, Cart, Bundles and Checkout areas of MyFonts, one of the busiest font selling websites in the world.
- Typecast.com – lead Front End Developer for Typecast app, a font experimentation tool which won .NET’s “Game Changer of the Year” award in 2013.
- Monotype’s Web Font Platform – building customisable UI for a web application which helps to deliver fonts to third-party web design tools.
Whilst with Design by Front:
- Abbey Theatre – redevelop and rebrand of the website for the National Theatre of Ireland
- Bang on the Door – feature rich website for the “Groovy Chick” brand
- BBC Irish Portal – promoting Irish Language Culture through an audio, video and editorial archive
- BBC Sesame Tree – a localised “Sesame Street” spin-off website for the BBC, which featured animations and games for kids
- BBC Titanic Journey – a website with interactive features and video exploring the depths of the Titanic
- Carte Blanche Greetings – helping to create a series of branded e-commerce focused websites for Carte Blanche Greetings
- Dale Farm – building multiple websites for Dale Farm’s large range of products
- Dublin City University – a web portal for the students of Dublin City University
- NI Archive – a collection of tourist trails drawn together from Northern Ireland museums and community groups
- O2 Let’s change – a branded website promoting mobile network O2’s “Let’s Change” campaign
- O2 Rugby – a promotional website for O2’s sponsorship of the Ireland Team in the Rugby World Cup
